Varieties of hosting solutions

A hosting solution applies to stashing and/or sharing certain content on a web server administered by a website hosting vendor. There are different kinds of hosting services used for different ends, so let's take a peek at them. Doing so, you can decide what you need, based on whether you desire to own a web site, e-mail box accounts, or to share files with chums and acquaintances.

- File hosting: a service delivered by certain file storage providers, which permits you to share enormous files. These could be disk images, films, audio files, archived files, etc. This service is also known as file storage, and its only designation is to share files, since it does not offer web page uploading. Once the files are uploaded, you will either receive a randomly created download link for each of them, or you will be able to view a register of all the files in a directory, but you will not be able to view .html or .php web files in your web browser. Free-of-charge file storage accounts often include adverts by the download links, while a timer compels you to await a certain spell of time to view them. A single file can be downloaded with limited speed. If you buy a paid file storage plan, there are no limitations as to how many files you can upload/download right away, and also there is no limit in regard to the download speed or the file size.

Nowadays, with the assistance of the cPanel hosting merchants, "file hosting" is being renamed to the more fashionable "cloud hosting". This is a completely inappropriate interpretation of the literal meaning of "cloud hosting". A real cloud website hosting system would assign the load between independent stacks of web servers in a cluster, which are devoted to serving different web hosting services (email, disk storage, stats, DNS, databases, website hosting Control Panel, etc.) So, the file hosting service is only a kind of a data storage hosting solution, not a cloud hosting one. It's not even near.

- Image hosting: akin to file hosting; specific vendors provide a hosting solution for pictures exclusively. This hosting kind is appropriate if you want to share a large amount of pictures with chums or colleagues since the service is usually free of charge. You will receive a randomly generated link for every picture or album and you can then share this link. As with the file hosting solution, .html and .php files are not compatible, so the service cannot be utilized for web sites.

- E-mail hosting: a solution committed to managing your mail aliases. Some firms provide website hosting solutions for web sites, but do not supply an email service. If you want to get a mail address with your domain name but do not desire to possess a site, then the email hosting service is what you want. You can set up electronic mail accounts and manage them, but there will be no hosting service for the domains. The e-mail hosting service includes incoming POP/IMAP and outgoing SMTP servers.

- Video hosting: this solution allows you to upload and share videos. You can either share a link to a certain video, or you can embed the video in your website that is hosted somewhere else. The benefit of availing of this approach instead of uploading the video in a web hosting account is that the video file generates a specific amount of CPU load, so with a handful of videos and a few hundred web page viewers, you may have a problem with your site hosting quotas. Embedding the video file will enable you to administer as many videos as you want without bothering about system supplies.

- Web hosting: this is the service that you need if you want to own a web site. To some extent, it includes all of the aforementioned hosting types since, along with your web pages, you can also host pics and files, you can set up databases and e-mail accounts, upload video clips, etc. At Alpha-Omega Systems, for instance, you can take a look at web hosting and dedicated server hosting accounts that allow you to have all of the aforesaid solutions in one place. There may be limitations depending on the kind of hosting solution that you've picked - a free hosting package, a paid shared hosting account, a VPS or a dedicated server. Depending on that, your website hosting package may be better or worse compared with the typical email/file/video/image hosting plans that are meant for specific web content solely.
